Frequently Asked Questions Regarding USM Commencement
All students who intend to graduate must complete the degree application form on eSpire by the deadline noted on the Academic Calendar. In general, students graduating in spring or summer must apply by the deadline in the fall semester; students graduating in the fall must apply by the deadline in the prior spring semester.
If you have completed your degree application and you indicated you plan to attend the commencement ceremony:
Your cap and gown has been ordered for you. The Registrar鈥檚 Office will email information to you with the dates that your caps and gowns may be picked up. Students must monitor their USM emails for this important information.
If you do not live on or near the Main Campus or USM-Johnson County, you will need to order your cap and gown online at and have it shipped to your home address to bring to Commencement.
Regalia is not needed if you choose not to participate in the commencement ceremony.
IMPORTANT NOTE TO REMEMBER: Do not decorate your cap. No exceptions.
You must purchase regalia in order to participate in Convocation and Commencement ceremonies.
If you miss the deadline but still want to participate at Commencement, our vendor will work with you to ensure your late order will still arrive in time. However, a late fee of $50 or more may be assessed for shipping fees.
Most graduation announcements are ordered and mailed 4 to 6 weeks prior to graduation.
You may order 花椒直播 graduation announcements directly from CB Announcements/Balfour .
Yes. The Spire Shop will be open from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on May 3.

Rehearsal is required for all students. Regalia is not required for rehearsals. For those who cannot make the rehearsal, email registrar@stmary.edu for details on directions to Commencement, time to report, and other graduation expectations.
The Convocation & Hooding Ceremony is for undergraduates only.

Tickets are not required.
Cap and gowns are required for every Commencement activity except rehearsals. Remember: DO NOT DECORATE YOUR CAP (no exceptions).
Bachelor鈥檚 degree candidates must wear cap and gown for Spring Convocation and Hooding Ceremony (this is where Bachelor's degree candidates will be hooded). December bachelor鈥檚 degree candidates will be hooded at the Commencement ceremony.
Bachelor鈥檚 degree candidates must wear cap, gown, and hood for the Commencement Ceremony.
Graduate/Doctorate students must wear cap and gown and carry their hood during the Commencement ceremony. Master's and Doctorate will be hooded during Commencement.
Bachelor鈥檚 degree candidates should wear their tassels on the right side during the Convocation and Hooding Ceremony.
All degree candidates (bachelor鈥檚, master鈥檚 and doctorate) should wear their tassels on the right during Commencement.
This is a special day for all graduates! Comfortable professional wear is strongly encouraged.
We recommend that you wear comfortable shoes (NO FLIP FLOPS).
We remind you to please double-check that you bring all required regalia (Cap, Gown, and Hood).

Yes, the commencement activities will be livestreamed through .
Once all requirements have been met to complete your degree and all financial obligations have been met with the University, your diploma will be mailed to the address indicated as "permanent" on your graduation application. If you need to update that address or verify the address you included, please contact the Registrar's Office.
Calculation of academic honors (if applicable), will be based on grades recorded for the term preceding the final academic term. Final updates to academic honors will be displayed on the official transcript based on all final grades.
