(Leavenworth, Kan.)—The Lawrence D. Starr Center for Peace and Justice (CPJ) at the »¨½·Ö±²¥ and the UNA Women Committee of the United Nations Association of Greater Kansas City are sponsoring a special reception and talk with Kevin M. Kennedy, UN Assistant Secretary General and Regional Humanitarian Coordinator on Oct. 17.
Kennedy will speak on the UN's Role in the Syrian Humanitarian Crisis.His appearance will be from 5:30-7 p.m. at Affare Restaurant, 1911 Main St. in Kansas City, Mo.

Assistant Secretary-General Kevin M. Kennedy has served with honor and distinction both his country and the world community. He most recently served as the UN's regional humanitarian coordinator for the Syria crisis. Based in Amman, Jordan, Mr. Kennedy provided strategic and operational guidance to the world's Syria relief effort and to that end worked closely with the governments of Jordan, Turkey, Iraq and Lebanon.

Karenbeth Zacharias, director of USM's CPJ. "The global crisis of refugees—65 million
around the world, half of them children—is unprecedented since World War II. It is
vital that we engage within the international community in discussions about how we
can work together through the UN and within our communities to address this crisis."
The reception precedes the 2017 Mayor's UN Day Dinner in Kansas City, which will feature
