(Leavenworth, Kan.)—The »¨½·Ö±²¥ Stefani Doctor of Physical Therapy
will present a health and wellness fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25,
in the De Paul Library Active Learning Center on USM's Leavenworth Campus, 4100 South
4th Street.
The fair is free and open to the public.
From nutrition to workplace ergonomics, third-year DPT students will host a variety
of informational booths and screening stations to appeal to both the university and
local community. Booths include:
- Smart Snacking: There's no better time to take control of your health than now. As the holiday season approaches, understand the basics about your body's needs and cravings.
- How Sugar Stacks Up: Find out where sugar is hiding, and see how much of the sweet stuff you're really consuming.
- Safeguard Your Workspace: If poor quality movement reigns in your workspace, your risk of injury is significantly increased. DPT students will take you through a checklist identifying hazards keeping you from your healthiest self.
- Warm-up Techniques: So many stretches—but what's the best? DPT students will equip you with the right moves to keep you injury-free.
- Proper Hand Washing: Hand hygiene is one of the most important steps in avoiding sickness and spreading germs. Master the best technique just before cold and flu season.
- Effects of Caffeine: This stimulant does so much more than just keep you awake. Find out what else caffeine does to your central nervous system.
- Benefits of Walking: Exercise is one of the best things you can do for your health—and walking, in particular, has its own set of benefits … some you may not already know!
"This is a great opportunity for our class to put what we've learned in action," said
Jenna Humphrey, third-year DPT student. "Physical therapy deals with a wide spectrum
of health challenges and medical issues—and this fair offers a platform for us to
share what we've learned with our community."
