Biology StudentsAs a pre-veterinary student, you will be prepared for a successful career as a veterinarian. Faculty will teach you to think critically and efficiently – identify reasoning and critical details for making sound decisions.

Your Degree

Most often, pre-veterinary students choose USM’s biology major. Your advisor will help you to identify the elective courses that will make you make you a stand out in a competitive application process for the top veterinary programs in the country.


Job Outlook

Vet school is a full-time endeavor, but come graduation, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports the  for a veterinarian is $100,370, though specialty and experience factor into that figure.

According to the BLS, employment of vets is projected to grow 19 percent from 2021-31, which is much faster than the average for all occupations.

Meet Hazel Faz

After graduation, Hazel Faz became a veterinary student at Texas A&M University. At USM, she was a biology major and presented her research at the Science and Mathematics Undergraduate Research Forum. She was also a KCAC Scholar-Athlete and a KCAC Softball Gold Glove Award winner.
