USM Guardian Angel Program
The USM Guardian Angel Program: Helping Students Bridge the Financial Gap
USM is committed to ensuring that a quality higher education is available to all students, as earning an undergrad degree is still the most reliable path to increased earnings. To that end, the university offers an earnings-matching program to help students with financial need bridge the financial gap and achieve their educational dreams.
Thanks to the support of 花椒直播 Guardian Angel donors, the university can now offer a dollar-for-dollar match, up to $2,500 a semester, to students with the highest demonstrated and unmet financial need.
The Guardian Angel program is a remarkable opportunity for our 花椒直播 students, many of whom are working jobs over the summer, breaks, and during the semester to cover attendance costs. For students approved for the Guardian Angel program, the university and its donors will match those earnings, up to $2,500 a semester. (Please note: Guardian Angel assistance can only cover outstanding balances with the university and will not create a refundable credit.)
As USM depends on Guardian Angel donors to support this effort, funding is limited. Guardian Angel funds will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis, and students must complete an application process to be approved.
The Guardian Angel award is renewable for up to four years, although students must reapply each year, as eligibility is tied to expected family contribution and demonstrated need. To apply to the Guardian Angel program, students must apply for and accept all Title IV aid, including PLUS loans.
How it works
Consider the sample 花椒直播 students below:
Vinny
Vinny lives on campus with an Expected Family Contribution of $0, so Vinny has the highest financial need.
The total listed cost of attendance for a semester at USM (including tuition, fees, and room & board) is $19,460.
Vinny qualifies for $10,500 in scholarships per semester from the university; plus $3,173 in need-based federal aid and $4,750 in Federal Direct loans.
After aid and loans, Vinny's bill is $1,037 per semester.
If Vinny qualifies for the Guardian Angel program and pays half of that--$518.50--from his own earnings, the university and its donors will cover the rest.
Xavier
Xavier lives off campus, with an Expected Family Contribution of $0, so Xavier also has high financial need.
The total listed cost of attendance for Xavier's semester at USM (including tuition and fees and room & board) is $15,390.
Xavier qualifies for $7,000 in scholarships per semester from the university; plus $3,173 in need-based federal aid and $4,750 in Federal Direct loans.
After aid and loans, Xavier's bill is $467 per semester.
If Xavier qualifies for the Guardian Angel program and earns enough to pay half of that--$233.50--the university and its donors then cover the rest.
